Making a Traditional 108 Bead Mala (video)

I’ve been making malas for the last 3 years or so. I really enjoy the creative process of making a mala and I’ve always liked the idea of creating functional art too. The physical process I find very meditative and fulfilling, once you get comfortable with random unforeseen hiccups like a knot that didn’t go as planned. These rouge knots can be scary, especially when you are 87 knots into the mala and something goes wrong and you’re faced with the prospect of starting over from the beginning! It took me some time to find peace in these moments and I made another post about tying and untying knots, which you might find useful reading if you are going to take on the art of making a mala.

I learned how to make malas from watching a number of videos on YouTube and distilled these ideas down to my own process which I’m excited to share with you now in this video. Please like the video and follow me on YouTube. I also welcome your questions via the comments. I’d be happy to help you through this process if I left anything out. I found learning this knot from a video to be very challenging!

Let me walk you through the process of creating a traditional 108 bead mala from scratch with this how-to video.
